Honor Guard Uniform

Our uniform that became standard issue back in 1965 consists of a Navy bell hat with a CFD hat badge.  The black along the bottom of the hat and the band varied between black, white, silver or gold, depending on the position held.  The blouse is grey with a whistle clip and red cord worn on the left shoulder. A large badge and name badge is issued
The honor guard also wears a white parade dress belt with a brass or silver buckle over the blouse.  Since 2007, a red ascot has been worn under the blouse during formal ceremonies.  In the summer, a white long sleeve shirt with a CFD badge may be designated.  Over the years, the badge has changed in size and was mandated in 2009 to remain large in size.  The left shoulder cord is red and white gloves are always worn at formal engagements.  The pants are grey with red pin stripes and are worn with a black leather belt and brass buckle.  In 1969, black dress shoes and black belt were redefined as part of the standard uniform and red socks were also adopted.  Red gloves were adopted in 1970 for the CT State Firefighter’s Convention held in Southington.  When the guard are not attending a memorial function or marching as part of a color team, you may see them wearing the traditional gloves.  At any memorial service or funeral, the badge is shrouded with a black mourning band.
